Putin to Pay State Visit to India in December

(MENAFN) Russian President Vladimir Putin is scheduled to make a state visit to India on Dec. 4-5, the Kremlin declared on Friday.

According to the announcement, Putin’s visit comes at the invitation of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, with the trip described as “significant, providing an opportunity to comprehensively discuss the entire agenda of Russian-Indian relations.”

The statement characterized the relationship between Russia and India as a “special, privileged strategic partnership,” noting that discussions between Putin and Modi will cover ongoing international and regional matters.

During the visit, Putin is also expected to meet Indian President Droupadi Murmu.

“The talks are expected to result in the adoption of a joint statement and the signing of a number of bilateral interagency and commercial documents,” the statement further noted.
The planned visit was initially revealed by Indian National Security Adviser Ajit Doval in August.

Speaking to a news agency during a meeting with Russian Security Council chief Sergey Shoygu, he mentioned that Putin will come "at the end of the year."

Additionally, Putin met Indian External Affairs Minister Subrahmanyam Jaishankar in Moscow on Nov. 18, who had traveled to the Russian capital to participate in a Shanghai Cooperation Organization meeting.
