Chinese President Pushes for Unified Market, Stricter Anti-Corruption Measures
(MENAFN) On Tuesday, Chinese President Xi Jinping urged the creation of a “unified national market” while stressing the need for stringent regulation of power to combat corruption, as the Communist Party of China (CPC) marked its 104th anniversary, according to media.
The CPC, established in 1921, has now surpassed the remarkable milestone of 100 million members.
Speaking at the Central Commission for Financial and Economic Affairs, Xi emphasized the importance of advancing the marine economy to foster high-quality development.
In addition to serving as president, Xi holds the roles of general secretary of the CPC Central Committee and chairman of the Central Military Commission, overseeing major strategic decisions, including those affecting the People’s Liberation Army.
“Building a unified national market is essential for creating a new development pattern and promoting high-quality development,” Xi remarked during his address to the commission in Beijing.
He called for enhanced coordination and cooperation to create a cohesive approach across related sectors.
On Monday, Xi also spoke to the 24-member Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee, urging the party to continue its rigorous efforts in “advancing full, rigorous Party self-governance through forging good conduct.”
The Political Bureau stands as China’s supreme decision-making body, guiding the world's second-largest economy and most populous nation.
Xi urged senior party officials, particularly the “senior cadres,” to set an example by leading the charge in self-reform within the Party.
In a stern warning about corruption, Xi stated: “The exercise of power must be well-regulated and resolute efforts must be taken to address disciplinary and legal violations.”
“Party conduct and discipline must be turned from strict requirements into concrete actions, allowing ironclad rules to show their ‘iron teeth,’ thus sending a clear signal to the entire party of unwavering strictness and zero tolerance, creating a strong deterrent effect,” he added.
Under Xi's leadership, China has removed hundreds of high-ranking officials, including ministers and generals from the People's Liberation Army, as part of an ongoing anti-corruption campaign.
